Help Shape Two Wonder Wander Walking Trails For Cork City
16/09/2026
North Main Street and Oliver Plunkett Street have been selected as the locations for two new walking trails. The Wonder Wander Trail Network was first launched in 2024 to celebrate the distinct architecture, character and stories of Ireland’s Architectural Conservation Areas.
The Cork City trails are being developed as a joint initiative between the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and Cork City Council’s Architectural Conservation Office. Studio Myco and James Grieve Architects have been appointed to develop the new trails.
The trails will be self-guided with an illustrated map and a scavenger hunt, encouraging people of all ages to look up, look down and look closer at often forgotten or overlooked places like historic shopfronts, post boxes and street signage.
Each trail is shaped in partnership with the local community and we need you to nominate your favourite building and to share your memories associated with these places.
This local knowledge will help identify and enrich the places and stories that ultimately feature on the trail maps.
Community engagement events will take place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th September at:
- English Market — 11am to 1pm
- Cork City Library — 3 to 5pm
Everyone is welcome to drop in, share their stories and help shape the Cork City trails.
The completed Cork City Wonder Wander Walking Trails will be launched in spring 2027.
