How the Recruitment Competition Process Works
At Cork City Council, we follow a transparent and fair recruitment process to fill all vacancies. Here’s an overview:
- Advertising Vacancies
- Competitions are advertised via the Cork City Council website, Public Jobs, the LGMA website, and our social media channels.
- All applications must be submitted electronically via Submit. Applicants should retain a copy for their own records.
- Candidates should not email CVs or supporting documents, unless explicitly instructed. Any attachments submitted outside Submit will not be considered.
- Application Screening
- All applications are screened to ensure candidates meet the minimum requirements outlined in the job specification.
- Applicants are advised to complete all sections of the application form and clearly demonstrate that they meet the qualifications for the post.
- If your qualification was obtained outside Ireland, you can confirm the equivalent level online at naric.ie.
- Shortlisting and Interviews
- The interview board may shortlist applicants based on the information provided on the application form.
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview, which is predominantly conducted via Microsoft Teams, unless otherwise specified.
- Interviewers are professionally trained and experienced.
- Candidate Responsibilities
- Completed applications must be submitted by the closing date advertised.
- Candidates who fail to attend interviews or fail to provide requested evidence relevant to their application will have no further claim to consideration.
- Any attempt to influence the outcome of the selection process by the candidate or others will result in automatic disqualification.
- Panels
- The Council may form panels on completion of the selection process.
- Panels can be used to fill future vacancies and typically last one year, with the option to extend for a further year at the discretion of the Director of Human Resources.
- Offers and Appointment
- Candidates offered a post are expected to take up the appointment within one month, unless a longer period is agreed.
- Failure to accept the offer within this period may result in the Council withdrawing the appointment.
- Feedback and Appeals
- Requests for feedback should be submitted in writing to recruitment@corkcity.ie. While there is no specific timeframe, every effort will be made to provide feedback as soon as possible.
- Appeals or requests for review of decisions must be submitted within five working days of notification and must clearly outline the grounds for review.
