Oliver Deasy

Oliver Deasy is Projects Coordinator with Newton Court Sustainable Energy Community, which is a residential housing estate in Cork City, which is a voluntary position.

Having worked as a policy advisor for over 40 years with multilateral/bilateral agencies such as UNDP, EU, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and others, brings considerable expertise to the issues of sustainable communities.  Oliver developed a Charter for the Newton Court residential community focused on reducing costs and carbon across electricity, domestic heating, transport, and the local environment. To date, this work has led to the installation of solar panels in 35% of homes in the estate, as well as building-fabric energy upgrades, EV charging, and a community garden, all at various stages of implementation. Newton Court’s model, based on economies of scale and competitive tendering, has since been-adopted by other residential areas in Cork City and County. By 2030 Newton Court, a small residential estate aims to reduce its carbon footprint to 25% of its 2025 baseline, grow 25% of its food needs with the objectives of sustainable living and wellbeing. And, at the same time contributing to Ireland’s sustainable transition.
