Public Survey – The New Cork City Central Library

Cork City Council has acquired the historic Counting House building complex on South Main Street, as part of the wider regeneration of the Grand Parade Quarter, to become the new home of Cork City Central Library, the main library of the Cork City Council library network and a new landmark cultural facility in the heart of Cork City centre. The new library will be more than three times the size of the current City Library on Grand Parade, and Cork City Council is seeking the views of the public through a questionnaire to help shape the design and services of this landmark development.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to understand the current experience of library services, identify any barriers that inhibit people from using the library, hear which services people feel are missing or could be improved, and gather the publics ambitions for what the new library could offer Cork.

External architectural and library design specialists have been engaged by Cork City Council to work alongside our City Library and Architect’s Department staff to design the new library to ensure it meets the needs to the city today and into the future. This results of the survey will form part of the process informing that design.

The questionnaire seeks the views of both current library users and members of the public who do not currently use library services. Both perspectives are equally important to us.
