Revitalising Areas through Planning Investment and Development (RAPID)

Revitalising Areas through Planning, Investment and Development (RAPID) works with communities across Cork City in areas identified as disadvantaged. It supports partnership working between communities, voluntary groups and public agencies to improve local areas.

The RAPID programme in Cork is well known for strong co‑operation between agencies and for delivering targeted projects that address disadvantage. One Area‑Based Committee supports the four RAPID areas and works closely with the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) and other inter‑agency groups in the city.

Key areas of work for RAPID in Cork City include maintaining and supporting community safety forums in each RAPID area, and supporting local environmental groups and community‑led programmes. RAPID supports education by linking with school‑based programmes such as DEIS, SCP and HSCL, as well as community and lifelong learning initiatives. The programme supports social enterprises and works with youth networks by helping to deliver summer camps, sports activities and local events, including Cork City Council Non‑Fire Night Events. In addition, RAPID manages community facilities and services, supports the development of new community facilities, and promotes inter‑agency work focused on prevention and early intervention.
