Cities@Heart

Cities@Heart (2025-2030) is a Horizon Europe research project tackling the challenge of improving cardiovascular health and reducing inequality in access to care in urban settings. It is based on a collaborative model where - through evidence-based prevention, early detection and cutting-edge management of heart disease - public officials, healthcare professionals and community members pilot co-created strategies and test the feasibility and long-term effectiveness of real-world interventions grounded in delivering more socially-equitable outcomes. Cork – where City Council is joined by the HSE plus UCC’s School of Public Health - is among the seven WHO Healthy Cities participating, with our role revolving around using a combination of place-based public health strategies, community-centred programmes and integrated healthcare service provision in the design of appropriate and replicable approaches that are mindful of the context and build on the existing strengths of disadvantaged districts.
