Education @ Lifetime Lab

Lifetime Lab @ Old Cork Waterworks , with our popular visitor experience, interactive exhibit area, dedicated classroom space, onsite playground and historical importance to Cork City, is an ideal location to engage primary school children with science and maths (STEM subjects). We offer a range of SESE curriculum linked, hands on, Discover Primary Science and Maths accredited workshops and school outreach from September to June. Historical school tours of the Old Cork Waterworks are also available. Explorers Primary Marine Science - Virtual Workshop

Available from April to June 2021 -The Explorers Education Programme aims to integrate marine themes as closely as possible with lessons already taught in national schools through the Social Environment and Scientific Education (SESE) curriculum and other cross-curricula subjects. Lifetime Lab, and with thanks to the Marine Institute in association Camden Education Trust and Galway Atlantaquaria offer "Marine Projects in Class" for 3rd to 6th .Teachers will be provided with live online class workshops, class schemes, recommended education resources and lesson plans to support cross curricula project over the duration of the program.

Primary Science Workshop

Primary schools children participate in hands on science investigations, discovering topics such as Electricity, Magnetism, Forces, Materials, Heat, Light and materials. Our primary science workshops focus on the skills, concept development and content objectives of the SESE Science Curriculum. Throughout the design of the hands on workshops we are mindful the primary science activities presented would be modelled on and represent feasible classroom practice. MathsWorks Mobile

MathsWorks is a stimulating and fun introduction to primary maths, motivating pupils to engage primary maths through sight,sound, touch and movement. Each workshops includes a short presentation before children participate in a series of hands on maths based activities covering multiplication, symmetry, transformations and problem solving. SEAI Primary Energy Workshop

Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) have teamed up with Lifetime Lab to provide a series of interactive hands on energy workshops for Cork primary schools pupils. There are two workshops on offer, Senior Energy Workshops are aimed at 3rd-6th class and "Guzzler" Energy Workshops which are suitable for Senior Infant, 1st and 2nd class.

Discover Primary Science & Maths School Tours

School Tours of Old Cork Waterworks last approx. 90 minutes and include discovery time at our interactive exhibition where children will be entertained and stimulated while learning about energy, water, waste and a whole range of other environmental issues. In our Victorian Boiler and Engine houses children receive an opportunity to experience a bygone era of technology used in the past to supply water to Cork City. If time allows children can let off their own brand of steam in the playground and garden or enjoy a break in our marquee space before departure.

Lifetime Lab @ Old Cork Waterworks is an accredited Discover Primary Science and Math's Centre. Our STEM workshops and school outreach activities may be used towards achieving a Certificate, Plaque or Badge of Excellence for you class/school.
