Life stories of the extraordinary ordinary. How to write your life story.  New members always welcome. This group published The Elder Writers of Cork Anthology in 2025, a collection of the work produced through the workshops.

March | Friday 6 | 1.15 pm | Sisterhood and SanctuaryDocumentary | Celebrating International Women’s Day

The documentary tells the story of migrant women and their journey from a place of vulnerability to forming their own Social Enterprise - Saoirse Ethnic Hands on Deck, which has now also branched into catering. Follow their journey of how they negotiated multiple layers of trauma, including life in Direct Provision Centres during the Covid 19 pandemic. This project is in collaboration with Saoirse Ethnic Hands, the social enterprise where the women are based. Directed by Diarmuid McIntyre - A Grey Heron Media production in collaboration with Cork Migrant Centre and Cork Community TV and funded by Coimisiún na Meán.

March | Saturday 7 | 11am – 1pm | The Poet’s Library with Afric McGlinchey

Borrow a poet with us at The Poets Library workshop which features Afric McGlinchey this month. Afric McGlinchey’s The lucky star of hidden things and Ghost of the Fisher Cat (Salmon Poetry) were both translated into Italian. Tied to the Wind (Broken Sleep Books, 2021), a hybrid memoir, was translated into Macedonian. A multi-award-winning poet, Afric is also generously supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. A mentor on the National Mentoring Programme, she facilitates workshops in person and online via The Irish Writers Centre and her website. Her most recent collection, À la belle étoile – the odyssey of Jeanne Baré (Salmon Poetry) has been nominated for the Forward and Piggott Prizes. Curated by Kemi George-Simpson.

Come along to our free Digital Skills Drop-in clinic for help with using your phone or device, for example sending emails, using WhatsApp, filling in a form, booking tickets or shopping online. In collaboration with ALONE and Hi-Digital. 

March | Saturday 21 | 3.00 pm | ThinkSpeakDo ‘Wild Ones Salon: Being Human Playbook’

This Salon is a space for gender non-binary people and women. The theme for this Salon is inspired by World Poetry Day and anti-racism. It will feature poetry-based discussions around our common humanity to build peace. Contact: thinkspeakdo.cork@gmail.com

March | Saturday 21 | 3.00 pm | Our Galaxy and Beyond: Deep Space Photography

Sara Harvey is an amateur astrophotographer from Cork, Ireland, specialising in deep-sky imaging of galaxies, nebulae, clusters, and space dust. Her work has been featured multiple times on leading global astronomy platforms, and she is a previous winner of the Irish astrophotography competition 'Reach for the Stars'.

Sara's presentation will give an overview of her work and how these images can be captured from your back garden.

The Irish language writing group Peann agus Pár meet every fortnight in the City Library, Grand Parade. Join us as we will be reading our work with musical accompaniment. We will be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to read a poem or sing a song as Gaeilge on the day as well. Music with Jody Crowley.

This rainbow book club meets on the last Saturday of each month. It is open to all and welcomes new members.

Lord Mayor’s Civic, Community & Voluntary Awards – Applications Open

Applications are now open for the Lord Mayor’s Civic, Community & Voluntary Awards 2026.

The public are invited to nominate community and voluntary groups they believe deserve recognition for the valuable work they do. The awards are presented to six category winners and to one overall winner.

Looking for an opportunity to chat to others in Irish, come along and be part of our informal Irish conversation get together. Suitable for adults of all levels of fluency who wish to use their c?pla focal. Meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month.

A look at the remarkable contribution of the Conlons, the Duggans, the Wallaces and the MacSwineys to the fight for Irish Independence in Cork during the revolutionary years.

An interactive session for anyone curious to move and sing gently using nature words in the Irish-language Inclusive, bilingual (Irish / English) group setting, no singing or Irish-speaking experience needed. Wear loose clothing. March | Friday 20 | 1.00pm | Capturing the stars through photography: An introduction to the night sky and astrophotography by Kevin Levins. An Irish Astronomy Week event. 

Ever wonder how to photograph the stars? In this session, Kevin will walk through the basics of astrophotography — from the camera setup to the weather and star-planning apps that make it all possible. Kevin will also share some of Ireland’s best dark-sky spots and showcase some of his own images, explaining how each shot was planned and captured using tools like PhotoPills and Stellarium. Whether you’re just curious or looking to improve your night-sky photography, this talk is perfect for anyone interested in shooting the stars.

The night market returns on Friday 13 March on Cornmarket Street from 5pm to 9pm.

Coffee House Lates will take place on Friday evening March 13 as participating coffee shops stay open late in the evening, offering a variety of different activities including coffee mocktails, comedy and arts & crafts.
