Dangerous Structures’ is a statutory section within the Fire & Building Control Department of Cork City Council, under the direction of the Chief Fire Officer, it is involved in maintaining public safety around the public thoroughfare of privately owned buildings, structures or sites deemed a danger to the public.
It operates under the remit of the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act 1964 as amended. The Fire & Building Control Department are committed to treating any report of a Dangerous Structure as a priority issue, and will promptly investigate any report. Cork City Council owned buildings are dealt with by our colleagues in the Housing Maintenance Department or in the Property Department.
Comprehensive powers of enforcement can be exercised by this section under the Local Government Acts. Appropriate action is then taken to eliminate the danger.
If you are concerned that a structure is, or is likely to become, dangerous then contact the Dangerous Structures Section.
