Cork City Council, in partnership with Galtymore Homes, has announced the launch of a new Affordable Housing Scheme, at Carraig Dún, Killeens, conveniently located less than 6kms from Cork City Centre.
This beautifully designed development of nine semi-detached homes is the tenth Affordable Housing Scheme of its kind offered for sale by Cork City Council, bringing the total number of homes offered under the scheme to 403 properties to date. Previous schemes across Cork City have included developments in Boherboy Road, Tower, Montenotte, Bishopstown, Ballincollig, Whites Cross, Grange, Lehenaghamore, and most recently, Glenbride, Old Mallow Road.
Situated just minutes from popular retail hubs such as Blarney, Blackpool, and Ballyvolane, Carraig Dún also boasts nearby access to the popular walking trail at Clogheenmilcon Fen. For commuters, the location offers seamless connections to key routes, including the North Ring Road, N20 Dual Carriageway, and is a mere 2 kms from the proposed new North Ring Motorway route.
Commenting on the launch of this new Affordable Housing Scheme, The Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Fergal Dennehy said: “As the tenth scheme launched under our Affordable Housing initiative, this project is a clear demonstration of the Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes for the people of Cork..
Cork City Council has exceeded its housing targets for the 2022–2024 period, and it is developments like this that are helping to keep us firmly on that upward trajectory.
I want to sincerely thank Galtymore Homes and our Housing Directorate for their continued dedication and hard work in bringing these homes to fruition. We very much rely on our collaboration with all stakeholders to provide a range of housing options and this scheme is a testament to that.
I look forward to seeing many more schemes like this in the future, as we work together to meet the housing needs of our growing city.”
Brian Geaney, Deputy Chief Executive, Cork City Council, added; “Cork City Council is delighted to partner with Galtymore Homes to deliver this, our tenth Affordable Housing development.
This is the third Affordable Housing Scheme launched by Cork City Council in recent months, and Carraig Dún is another significant milestone in Cork City Council’s expanding Affordable Housing portfolio, bringing the total number of homes offered under the Scheme to over 400 houses”.
Mirroring the success of previous Cork City Council Affordable Housing Schemes, it is expected that there will be significant interest in the scheme at Carraig Dún, Killeen’s and that the A2 energy rated, architect designed homes, will be much sought after.
The homes are available for sale from circa 20% below open market values to those who qualify for the Affordable Housing Scheme. For eligible applicants, three-bedroom, semi-detached homes, will be available from €320,000.
The Carraig Dún, Killeens Affordable Housing Scheme homes are generally available for first-time buyers who do not have an interest in any other property, although exceptions may apply for ‘Fresh Start’ applicants.
Income limits apply and potential applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the qualification criteria and the documentation required, details of which are available on www.carraigdun.ie
Under the terms of the scheme, purchasers will enter an ‘Affordable Dwelling Purchase Agreement’ with the local authority, which will see the council retaining a percentage equity share in the house equal to the difference between its open market value and the price paid by the purchaser.
Applications may be made between 12 noon on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, until midnight, Wednesday, 27 August 2025 via an online application portal, available at www.carraigdun.ie
Applicants are strongly encouraged to familiarise themselves with the documentation required to apply for the homes at Carraig Dún, as interest is expected to exceed the number of houses available for purchase. For further information, please contact affordablehousing@corkcity.ie
