A pair of Cork City Streets will come alive with music, events and food this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Kick off the weekend with the North Main Street Carnival on Saturday, August 23. This lively event, now in its third year, which is supported by Cork City Council, promises a day full of fun and excitement for everyone. Enjoy live music from the Roaring Forties band, cheer on the popular dog show, meet animals from Rumley’s Farm, and join in games for both children and adults. There’ll be face painting, brave Vikings roaming the street, and for the first time, the Knights of Munster reenacting epic battles.

North Main Street is one of Cork’s oldest streets, but this Saturday you can enjoy something new as part of Cork City’s Open Streets programme!

The fun doesn't stop there as the party continues at the very first Blackpool Block Party on Sunday August 24 AS Great William O’Brien Street will come alive from 1pm to 5pm. Enjoy live music, kids’ activities, tasty food, dramatic performances, dancing, creative workshops, acrobatics, hands-on crafts, and free giveaways including fresh local produce from community gardens all over the northside of Cork City.

The Block Party’s lineup features local favourites like Cork Community Art Link, Céili All Stars, Kabin Crew, The Heppsters Jazz Trio, Tomás Mac Curtain Pipe Band, Graffiti Theatre, Super Stars Stage School, Ringo Bingo, Cork Community Bikes, Glen Community Gardens, The Foyer, Meitheal Follaine, NICHE Community Gardens, Blackpool Knitting Group, Community Ceili Fusion Dance Group, and the amazing street acrobat, Ally Futto. Don’t miss it!

The above events are supported by Cork City Council's ‘Open Streets’ initiative. The ‘Open Streets’ concept involves the opening of roadways as spaces for social and community events. This encourages a culture where streets are seen as shared spaces for health and well-being and recreation, rather than just for vehicles. Through an integrated approach with the local businesses, business representative organisations, public transport bodies and community groups, Cork City Council, with its partners, has been running a series of ‘Open Streets’ events, both in the city centre and in the larger suburbs of Cork city. It forms part of a net zero city pilot project.

The Blackpool Block Party is organised by Cork Community Art Link and the Blackpool Community Centre, supported by the RAPID programme of Cork City Council, the HSE Community Work Department, and the Cork City Partnership.
