A Recap of Culture Night 2025

Culture Night 2025 took place on Friday September 19th last, bringing thousands into the city to visit cultural, artistic and community venues from Mayfield to Bishopstown, Blackrock to Sunday’s Well.

 

Highlights of the night included:

  • As If I Already Knew’, a meditation on piano by Cian Sweeney;
  • The launch of ‘Beneath Our Feet’ Art and Archaeology exhibition of artefacts from recent excavations in the North Main St/Grattan St area
  • Squish Stomp Spin’, a story on movement and neurodiversity
  • Open Streets and a Night Market on North Main St & Cornmarket St.
  • Kaught at the Karpark’ – recalling the heyday of Cork’s post-punk era for new audiences

 

There were also community trails for the first time, in Blackpool and Mayfield, highlighting to local residents opportunities to engage with culture on their doorsteps.

 

Lord Mayor Fergal Dennehy took a tour of several venues on the night, remarking ‘Culture Night reminds us of the power of creativity to bring us together, to connect us with our roots, and to showcase the extraordinary cultural life of our city.’

 

Culture Night is a national event, with Cork City contributing 112 venues to the nationwide programme of nearly 2,000, including live broadcasts from Cork city centre to the RTE Culture Night live TV special.
