Open Streets Returns as Family Fun Takes Over Maylor Street This Saturday
25/03/2026
The heart of Cork City Centre will be buzzing again this weekend as the Open Streets Festival kicks off its 2026 programme with a lively Family Fun Day on Maylor Street. The event takes place on Saturday, March 28, from 1pm to 3pm, offering an afternoon packed with activity, entertainment, and an inviting atmosphere for families of all ages.
Following the success of nine Open Streets events last year, this weekend marks the first instalment of the new season. Maylor Street will be transformed into a traffic-free space where families can take part in outdoor games and enjoy a variety of unique in-store experiences. As always, attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transport, supporting the festival’s aim of creating more people-friendly city spaces.
In addition to family-focused fun, Cork Business Association in partnership with a number of retailers have brought exclusive offerings for the day from discounts, to handscrubs, to live music and even a visit from Percy Pig! Come into the city and enjoy the offers. Participating businesses include:
● Tommy Hilfiger
● Marks & Spencer
● Penney’s
● Skechers
● Michel Jewellers
● Kilkenny Design
● Greenwich
● Bath & Body Works
● The Old Oak
Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Fergal Dennehy said:
“Maylor Street will come alive with colour and excitement this Saturday as we launch another Open Streets season. We’re encouraging families to explore the city, enjoy the activities on offer, and take advantage of the fantastic promotions from local retailers. It’s a great opportunity to experience the city centre as a welcoming space for fun, community, and connection.”
This event forms part of Cork City Council’s and Cork Business Association’s continued effort to champion vibrant, people-centred public spaces and support an active, thriving city centre.
Dave O'Brien, President of Cork Business Association said, "We are delighted to launch the year of Open Streets events on Maylor Street this Saturday, welcoming families in to the city and working with our great local retailers. It is an opportunity to see and explore the city in a different and even more welcoming way. To echo the Lord Mayor, community and connection is what we are selling in order to bring vibrancy to the city streets. "
