Marina Park Update: Atlantic Pond Reopens!

12/12/2025

Cork City Council is excited to announce that the Marina Park project has now been completed and that all areas, including the Atlantic Pond and Sunken Garden, are now open for you to explore, just in time for Christmas strolls, catching up with friends and family!

The Marina Park project, a 32 hectare park at the heart of the Docklands, is five times the size of Fitzgerald’s Park and includes:

  • The planting of about 200 new semi-mature trees;
  • The creation of more than five acres of new biodiverse planting, including shrubs, wildflowers, water-based plants, and bulbs, in addition to the natural assets that were already there;
  • The installation of three new bridges - Atlantic Pond Bridge, the timber - deck bridge, and the elevated tree walkway;
  • The installation of Cork’s newest playground;
  • The conservation of historic features such as Barrington’s Folly, the Ice Cave/Boathouse and Dundanion Castle slipway and heritage stone walls;
  • The creation of additional flood storage capacity and sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) to benefit the entire Cork Docklands area;
  • The Reimagined Atlantic Pond : Now more accessible, with wider paths, new seating, and an amphitheatre-style area to sit and enjoy nature.  On the southern side, there’s a new wooden pier (perfect for launching model boats from) and timber deck bridge.  The old broken concrete edge on the southern side has been replaced with a new soft, planted edge, improving the biodiversity at the Pond.

Thank you for bearing with us as we and our contractors Ward and Burke worked to create this magnificent new green space for you to enjoy. We can’t wait to see you down there!
