Met Éireann has issued both orange and yellow wind warnings for Cork City for tonight and tomorrow:

Met Éireann is also separately warning there will be a period of significant rainfall from 9.00 p.m. on Monday 8 December 2025 until 9:00 a.m. , tomorrow Tuesday 9 December 2025.
Thus, for a period of time tomorrow morning there will be both strong and gusty winds as well as significant rainfall occurring at the same time.
Cork City Council’s Severe Weather Assessment and Flood Assessment Teams met this afternoon. Cork City Council has also been engaging with Met Éireann over the past 24 hours to assess the potential impact of Storm Bram on Cork City.
The City Council’s Severe Weather Assessment and Flood Assessment are continuing to keep matters under review as this is a very dynamic weather system with a high degree of uncertainty regarding its impact.
Due to the forecasted heavy rainfall and orange wind warnings, Cork City Council is advising the public:
- Don’t make any unnecessary journeys;
- If you must travel, take care when driving, as conditions will be hazardous;
- Stay away from any fallen electricity lines or trees;
- Take measures to secure any loose outdoor items such as temporary structures, Christmas decorations, trampolines etc.;
- Continue to monitor Met Éireann and Cork City Council social media and websites for updates.
In addition to the orange wind warning, the significant storm system is likely to generate a high level of storm surge at high time on Tuesday morning, and combined with the forecasted heavy rainfall and significant winds, Cork City Council is warning of flooding on low-lying quays at high tide tomorrow morning.
The High Tide cycle is predicted as follows:
Day Date Morning High Tide
Tuesday 09/12/2025 8.30 a.m.
There is thus a risk of tidal flooding on low lying quays in the City Centre between 8.00 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Commuters are warned that a number of road closures and traffic restrictions on the city quays will be necessary during the period of the high tides (e.g. Wandesford Quay, Lavitt's Quay and South Terrace).
Diversions will be put in place to ensure traffic can still circulate, but there may be delays and journeys may take longer than normal. Restrictions will be introduced from early morning to reduce the impact of traffic moving through standing water. Any restrictions will be eased as appropriate and as quickly as possible.
If you must travel tomorrow morning, please avoid travelling into the City Centre until after 9.30 a.m.
Householders and businesses who are normally affected by low level tidal flooding should take precautionary measures to protect property from flooding.
Flooding is likely to occur in the low-lying areas of the City Centre, in particular on:
- Morrison’s Quay
- Father Mathew Quay
- Father Mathew Street
- Union Quay
- Trinity Bridge
- South Terrace
- Rutland Street
- Sawmill Street
- Lavitt’s Quay
- Kyrl’s Street
- Kyrl’s Quay
- Crosses’ Green
- Sharman Crawford St
- Wandesford Quay.
Motorists are advised not to park in any of the areas listed above between before 9.30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
The situation is being continually monitored and further advice will issue as required.
Cork City Council will post regular updates to our social media accounts as well as to the City Council’s website (www.corkcity.ie)
The City Council’s Customer Service Unit (CSU) will operate from 9.00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, to allow members of the public contact us with any issue that may arise due to this severe weather event. The CSU can be contacted on 021-4924000.
