Cork City Council Shows its Support for Daffodil Day Campaign

10/03/2026

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Fergal Dennehy and the Lady Mayoress were joined by several city councillors on Monday afternoon to encourage people to support this year’s Daffodil Day campaign.

The Lord Mayor and members of City Council collected their own Irish Cancer Society (ICS) Daffodil Day pins before Monday’s March meeting of City Council in a cross-party show of support to encourage people to donate or fundraise for the society’s annual flagship fundraiser, which takes place on Friday, March 20.

“Unfortunately, cancer has touched everybody, every neighbourhood in our city and beyond but it is only coming together for such causes that we can support survivors and raise vitally needed funds for cancer care,” the Lord Mayor said.

“Daffodil Day is an incredible annual campaign. It has been proven to be a testament to the compassion of the Irish people.

“Buying a Daffodil Day pin or a lovely bunch of daffodils is a small gesture but it helps funds a massive fight.

“We, as a council, differ on many things, but we stand together united in our support for the Irish Cancer Society and its vital work, and we would encourage as many people as possible to support Daffodil Day next week.”

Cork City Hall will also be illuminated in yellow light on Daffodil Day to honour those currently in treatment.

The funds raised by last year’s Daffodil Day campaign helped fund:

  • 29,800 free drives to treatment.
  • 5,900 nights of nursing care.
  • 26,700 supportive and comforting conversations.
  • 14,300 free counselling sessions, and
  • 170 families to avail of the Irish Cancer Society Children’s fund which helps with the cost of a childhood cancer diagnosis.

You can support Daffodil Day by buying Daffodil Day pins and bunches of daffodils from various locations across the city, from various “pop ups” on the streets and in shopping centres, or by donating what you can online.
