Cork City Council secures funding for Killeens & Glanmire communities

Cork City Council has welcomed the announcement that it has secured funding for 2 projects, as part of the €27 million in funding nationally from the Department of Rural and Community Development's Town & Village Renewal Scheme.  Minister Heather Humphreys announced the largest ever investment under the Town & Village Renewal Scheme, designed combat dereliction and breathe new life into rural towns and villages, on December 14th.

Cork City Council secured funding for the following projects:

• In Killeens, funding of €25,000 has been secured to identify current village assets and build a greater sense of community. The project will also provide aesthetic improvements to the entrance to the village in terms of signage and landscaping. 

• In Glanmire, funding of €49,999.50 has been secured for a feasibility study for the establishment of a community enterprise hub.

Both applications were prepared in partnership with local community groups. Joanne Burke from the Killeens Renewal Group expressed their delight on news of the awarding of the funding. She said : “I would like to thank Cork City Council for helping the group to build a case to eventually secure funding . We welcome the €25K award and look forward to working with the City Council in the New Year”.  Lorraine O’Neill also welcomed the announcement of funding. She said: “The Glanmire Area Community Association welcomes the announcement of funding, which is a very positive development for Glanmire and builds upon existing funding to support the local community”.

 The City Council is looking forward to working with all stakeholders in the roll-out of the projects, which are very positive developments for Killeens and Glanmire.
