Information Technology

As the demands and expectations for efficient services increase, the systems and communications infrastructure that underpin the response to these demands has become more pervasive and complex.  These services range from Electric Vehicle charging points to Public Wifi or availing of online services to pay your rent or renew your overdue library books.

There are many aspects, capabilities and skill-sets within the sphere of ICT and Cork City Council’s ICT Department draw on the majority of these.

They range from deploying Tier 1 ERP, HRM and CRM systems to bespoke systems for Register of Electors and Social Housing lettings.

The team support voice and data communications in over 60 sites, some with 400 staff to others, such as cemeteries and depots with 2 staff, using a variety of fibre, wireless and DSL communication.

Our Websites provide  information and on-line services to over 130,000 citizens and to the thousands of visitors to the city each year.

The GIS environment supports Planning, Roads and Transportation, Property along with all other service areas within the City Council.

One of objectives of the ICT Dept. is to provide a secure, efficient and resilient network environment built on a combination of physical and virtual infrastructures.

Through ongoing collaboration with private and academic partners and deploying IoT technologies, we work to achieve Cork City Council’s goal to enhance Cork’s reputation as a Smart City.

All this while supporting over 1000 users and 150 plus systems.  It takes a lot of IT to support the effective running of a city!
