The 58th Lord Mayor’s Charity Christmas Concert

The world might have its Three Tenors but Cork has its Three Sopranos and the countdown to the festive season will begin in earnest when Majella Cullagh, Mary Hegarty and Cara O’Sullivan headline the 58th Lord Mayor’s Charity Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 1st in Cork City Hall.

Cork’s renowned trio of sopranos will be supported by the Cork Concert Orchestra and the Fleischmann Choir in the popular annual concert for which tickets are already selling fast. Cork singer-songwriter Jack O’Rourke, tenor Ryan Morgan, Over-60s winner Donal O’Connell and the award-winning Presentation Choir, Ballyphehane will complete the bill. We will also be accompanied by Elmarie Mawe, who will act as Master of Ceremonies.

Lord Mayor Cllr. Mick Finn points out that the charity concert represents the start of the Christmas season in Cork and said he is really looking forward to a brilliant night.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Majella, Mary and Cara joining forces for this gala event and their presence will really enhance the Christmas Concert,” he said. “Each one in their own right has played to sell-out audiences all over the world and to have them all on stage in City Hall will be fantastic. Add in all the other artists and this year’s Lord Mayor’s Christmas Concert looks likely to be one of the best ever.”

Lord Mayor Cllr. Finn said that apart from a great night’s entertainment, the funds raised will be distributed among local charities.

“This is one of several events on my calendar as Lord Mayor to raise funds for some of the great charities in the city. This is one of the biggest of these fundraisers, along with the Lord Mayor’s Charity Ball in City Hall on March 23rd next, so I’m hoping the people and businesses of Cork will respond positively as they always do.”
