Lord Mayor calls for support of Penny Dinners Sponsored Sunday initiative in Cork

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Terry Shannon has called on the people of Cork to support the Cork Penny Dinners Sponsored Sunday initiative. The Lord Mayor on his visit to the organisation in July was the first to lend his support to the initiative by funding the first of the Sponsored Sundays, where individual or corporate patrons can sponsor the cost of providing Sunday dinners on particular Sundays throughout the year.

The hope is that by sponsoring the cost of individual Sunday dinners (estimated at €500 per day) that the people of Cork can ensure the long term survival of the organisation.

The Lord Mayor stated:

“I was very impressed on my visit by the organisation’s drive and commitment in these difficult times. The recent Secret Millionaire television programme was an excellent showcase of the work of the organisation .This initiative is a creative and practical example of how individuals and organisations can provide much needed funding in a practical and cost effective way. I was delighted to be involved and urge individuals and organisations in Cork to give the project their full support".
