Lord Mayor calls for creativity in considering city route closures

The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Dara Murphy called for creativity and imagination in the decision to re-assess Cork bus routes (3/7/09).

The Lord Mayor stated:  “It will not be acceptable to me if Bus Éireann simply cuts routes and leaves some Cork citizens without any service at all. Despite recent claims that Bus Éireann has no choice but to implement proposed closure of certain city bus routes, it has managed, for example, to put a lot of extra buses on the airport route.

Skylink Cork are currently providing an excellent service on this route. Perhaps they should be left alone on these routes and let Bus Éireann concentrate on its suburban routes such as the number 1 and number 12 routes”.
