2008 lord mayors christmas concert

The Lord Mayor’s Annual Christmas Concert will take place this year on Saturday, 6th December @ 8pm in the Concert Hall, City Hall, Cork .

Now in its 48th year, details of the Annual Concert were recently launched at the Lord Mayor’s Chamber.

Sponsored by the Evening Echo, this year’s line up is headed by the internationally renowned soprano, Regina Nathan.

Other acts include bass/baritone John Molloy, the Lord Mayor’s 25-piece Gala Concert Orchestra under conductor Fergus Shiel, the 2008 winner of the Over-60s Talent Competition, Dan Cowhig, and the Choir from the Presentation Convent, Ballyphehane.  Sports commentator, Ger Canning, will be MC for the evening.

Speaking at the launch, Lord Mayor of Cork , Cllr. Brian Bermingham said “The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Concert is undoubtedly the highlight of the festive season. It reminds us of the true spirit and meaning of Christmas, that of caring for those less fortunate. The fact that it is such a spectacular and enjoyable event is a bonus.”

Organising Committee Chairman, Barry Woods of Thomas Crosbie Holdings Ltd. (TCH), said the Lord Mayor’s Concert traditionally heralded the beginning of the festive season in Cork .

“The Concert is seen by many as kick starting the festive season and is generously supported by both the private and public sectors. It’s a lovely event to be involved in and it’s quintessentially Cork . Booking early is advised,” said Mr. Woods.

Each year up to €30,000 is raised by the Concert for Cork charities.

Tickets for the Lord Mayor’s Concert are priced at €35, €25 and €10, and are on sale at Pro Musica, Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork
