Lord Mayor hosts Media Reception and launches Cork City Council Contact Directory 2006/7

At a Reception on Wednesday November 29th 2006 in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Cork, the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Michael Ahern, on behalf of Cork City Council, hosted an event for members of the print and broadcast media at which the 2006/7 Cork City Council Contact Directory was launched.

The Lord Mayor outlined the role of the Communications Liaison Officers (CLOs), whose communications responsibilities are additional to their general duties and explained the purpose of the Directory.

“The underlying logic behind setting up a team of CLOs whose details are contained in this Directory, was and is to give the media more direct access to staff with a greater technical understanding and closer knowledge of the subject area where possible”.

The Lord Mayor also thanked the members of the media for raising the profile on the work of Cork City Council and of Cork itself on an international, national and local stage.

“The relationship between Cork City Council and all media is a symbiotic one. We rely on all of you to help us bring to the attention of the people of Cork, Ireland and further afield the work we are entrusted to do to improve the standard of life of all citizens. You expect of us, and rightly so, that we are open and transparent in all our dealings. The relationship is one that is and should be based on trust and mutual respect” he said.

The event was also attended by the City Manager, Joe Gavin and by a number of Directors and Heads of Function and City Council staff.
