Update on disruption to water supply

09/06/'06 @ 3.00 p.m.

Cork City Council wishes to advise the public that work is continuing on the restoration of the water supply to parts of the north eastern area of the city.

The areas affected include Ballyvolane, Old Youghal Road, Ballyhooley Road, Rathmore Road, Wellington Road, Lower Glanmire Road, Middle Glanmire Road, Lovers Walk, Glenheights, Glenthorn, Mervue Lawn, Burkes Hill and Spring Lane.

City Council work crews are repairing the damage to the two large diameter watermains at Church Street (off Shandon Street) and Military Hill. Work is progressing satisfactorily and it is hoped to have the water supply restored at limited pressure to many of the above areas tonight.

NB While the water supply is disrupted, please ensure that electric showers, under sink heaters etc. are switched OFF and not used. Also, it is vitally important that people conserve water so please avoid flushing toilets, using appliances dependent on water, sprinkling gardens, washing cars etc.

Any member of the public who may be critically dependent on water should contact Cork City Council’s Water Services Section on 4924145.

When the water supply is restored, some slight discolouration to the water may occur. However this discolouration is harmless and will clear in a short time. Please check the clarity of the water before operating washing machines to prevent possible staining of washing and also before using dishwashers and drinks vending machines.

Cork City Council regrets any inconvenience caused to consumers while the essential repair works are being carried out.
