10 Cork city schools classes will have an opportunity to create a response to the ReImagine GLOW Windows Installations by making and designing their own panto scenes, transforming shoe boxes into mini pantomime theatre sets.

Under the guidance of Deirde Dwyer and Graffiti’s Creative Learning team, participating schools have been assigned a pantomime to work with, based on children’s story or fairytale. The class will read the story, research the essential ingredients of a good pantomime, and design their own theatre scenes. They are given an instructional video to follow, and a box of art materials to help them along. The class will also have two mentoring sessions (via Zoom) with Deirdre, who will help them to realise their designs by offering support and advice.

The 10 Cork City schools taking part are:

Cork Educate Together National SchoolSt.Vincent’s Primary School
Sunday’s Well Boys National SchoolMorning Star National School

At the end of the project, from Tuesday December 15th for the Christmas season, a selection of 52 box theatres made during the project will be displayed at the Atrium of City Hall - viewable safely through the windows, even when the building is closed.

And you can take part at home! Families can design their own Shoe Box Theatre pieces using Deirdre’s instructional video, see here. Let them know how you got on on their Social Media channels: facebook.com/graffiti.theatre or twitter.com/GraffitiTheatre

This project has been designed by Graffiti  and Re-Imagine Glow, in response to conversations with primary school teachers across the city who expressed a need for creative projects to engage primary school children in what would normally be a busy time of Christmas activities  celebrations. The project is made possible by the kind support of Cork City Council. For more information, check out www.graffiti.ie
