Draft Climate Change Adaptation Strategy 2019-2024
Climate change is impacting on Cork.
Cork City Council is taking a leading role in ensuring our city is ready for this challenge and is drafting a climate change adaptation strategy to help us increase our resilience.
It wants to hear your voice, to understand your concerns and to help protect our future.
Two public information days will be held at City Hall on Friday September 6th AND Saturday September 7th from 9.00am – 5.00pm.
Met Eireann, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Sustainable Energy Agency of Ireland (SEAI), the Water Communities Offices, An Taisce, Cork Environmental Forum and UCC are some of the organisations who will be holding exhibits.
So come along, visit the information stands, talk with experts on climate action and make your submission to the Cork City Council Draft Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. Entry is open to all.
Also, public workshops are being held during the information day on Saturday, September 7th. Tickets for these workshops are limited though and will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. So if you want to attend a workshop, please reserve a ticket via the following links:
Cork City Council has prepared a Draft Climate Change Adaptation Strategy in accordance with the provisions of The Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015 and the National Adaptation Framework (NAF), 2018.
Purpose of the Strategy:
The Climate Change Adaptation Strategy takes on the role as the primary instrument at local level to:
(i) ensure a proper comprehension of the key risks and vulnerabilities of climate change
(ii) bring forward the implementation of climate resilient actions in a planned and proactive manner and,
(iii) ensure that climate adaptation considerations are mainstreamed into all operations and functions of Cork City Council.
A copy of the Draft Strategy may be inspected during the period from Tuesday, 30th July 2019 to Friday, 13th September 2019 (both dates inclusive) during normal business hours at Cork City Council, City Hall, Cork, T12 T997.
They are also available for inspection at all Council Public Libraries.
The Adaptation Strategy may also be viewed on the Government Public Consultations Portal at gov.ie/consultations

Submissions or observations may be made:

Cork City Council will engage with schools and members of the public as part of the process.
Submissions or observations should state your name, address and where relevant the organisation/body etc. represented.
Please make your submission by one medium only i.e. post/hard copy or email before 5pm on Friday 13th September 2019.
It will help in the process of analysing the submissions if you can refer to the specific action e.g. 1.5, 6.3, 16.2 etc.
Any written submissions or observations received within the timeframe will be taken into consideration before the making of the strategy. You are invited to make written submissions/ observations in respect of the Draft Strategy and the accompanying SEA and AA Screening Reports found in the Appendices of the report.
Please note that all submissions may be available for public viewing during the period of making the Strategy. Cork City Council will treat all personal data as confidential and will retain data for no longer than is necessary for the purpose of this Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and in accordance with the Council’s Retention Policy and relevant Data Protection legislation.
