Community Facilities Scheme 2017

On 10th March 2017 the Minister of State for Communities and the National Drugs Strategy Catherine Byrne TD, announced a new €2m Capital grants scheme (Communities Facilities Scheme 2017) for disadvantaged urban and rural areas.

The Scheme is being administered by Cork City Local Community Development Committees (LCDC) under the remit of Cork City Council on behalf of the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (now the Department of Rural and Community Development). Cork City LCDC was allocated €64,500 from the Department for the Scheme in 2017. Funding relates to capital projects only and is intended to help grassroots community projects get underway or take the next step towards completion.

Cork City LCDC is responsible for targeting and allocating funding as it is ideally placed to identify the applications which most suitably address the Scheme's target groups and issues in Cork City.

The Communities Facilities Scheme 2017 funded projects that sought to enhance communities, address disadvantage and improve social cohesion at a local level and that are in keeping with the Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) for Cork City.

Cork City LCDC awarded 66 Communities Facilities Scheme Grants in 2017.
