Summer comes alive in Cork with exciting live performance programme

Cork City Council is delighted to support a jam-packed programme of live performances taking place in Cork City from the end of May through to June 30th as part of the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme (LLPPS). 

 

The diverse live programme includes big swing band sounds at Fitzgerald’s Park as part of Swing By the Lee; free music, circus, and comedy gigs at live music venue Coughlan’s as well as classical music performance by Cork Pops Orchestra in twenty schools and care homes across the City. New events supported include 3 River Rising, a series of folk and traditional concerts taking place at Live at St Luke’s as well as The Dad Rock Family Fun Day with big rock sounds and air guitars, celebrating Father’s Day at Marina Market.   The programme kicked off on Sunday 22nd May with a Family Fun day to celebrate the opening of the Marina Park including performances from Circus FactorySuper Star Circus and Stevie G. 

 

Funded by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, and managed through the Arts Office of Cork City Council, the scheme aims to help underpin the recovery of the live performance sector and support employment opportunities for local artists, performers and those who work in the events sector. Following a competitive callout, eight varied programmes to suit all audiences are planned in venues, parks, schools, care homes and community settings around Cork city.

Cork Pops Orchestra Programme from May 26th to June 22nd 

Cork Pops Orchestra are delivering a programme of classical music performances across twenty schools and care homes in Cork City as well as collaborating with Nano Nagle Place, Cork Migrant Centre and The Lantern Project on a range of community-based performances and producing online resources for schools and care homes

Swing by the Lee Festival 2022, 29th May 12noon to 5pm.

Free open-air concerts in Fitzgerald’s Park, as part of Swing by the Lee Festival. Come enjoy performances from Laoise Leahy & Band and musical duo Sparkle, as well as swing and soul from The Songstress and Band, The Loungeman, The Franklins, Cork Singers Collective as well as Swing Dance Cork.

Hifilutin Quartet

Join the Hifilutin Quartet and enjoy the luscious melodies of classical masterpieces, tap your toes to highlights from musicals and dance tunes from around the world in a series of performances in The Marina Market and Douglas Woollen Mills. Performances include:

  • Friday June 3rd – Douglas Woollen Mills/ On the Pig’s Back 7.30-9pm

3 RIVERS RISING, June 10th and 11th, St. Luke’s

A weekend of Folk and Traditional music from all over the County of Cork, will take place

Local Live Performance Stage at the Carnival of Science, June 11th & June, Fitzgerald’s’ Park 

New to this year’s Carnival of Science, enjoy the best of local trad musicians at the Local Live Performance Stage, funded by the LLPPS.   

Cork Carnival of Science at Fitzgerald Park features non-stop, family-friendly experiments, interactive activities, garden games, street cuisine and a packed line-up of live demonstrations, big top shows, hands on workshops and entertainment. Cork Carnival of Science is supported by Cork City Council and Science Foundation Ireland.

The Dad Rock Family Fun Day, June 19th Marina Market 

Cork, get ready to rock! The Dad Rocks Family Fun Day is a day celebrating all things father figures on Father’s Day – rock and funk sounds, dad jokes, air guitars and more to beat the band! Here's to the Dads! The day of dad fun includes a raucous line-up of DJ Ian Richards, King K, One Horse Pony, Quangodelic, Harvey K and the Wrecking Crew along with special appearance from the hilariously pompous dad of the year (!!) Reggie from the Blackrock Road and much more. The day will be filled with fun antics including Best Dad Jokes Competition, Air Guitar Competition and a DIY Dad Obstacle Course and lots more surprises!
