The Mahon Local Area Plan 2014 was made by the Elected Members of Cork City Council at the Ordinary Meeting of Cork City Council on Monday 24 March 2014.
In accordance with section 20(4A) of the Planning & Development Act, 2000 as inserted by section 13(c) of the Planning and Development (Amendment) Act, 2010 - the Mahon Local Area Plan came into effect on Monday 21 April 2014.
The Mahon Local Area Plan sets out an integrated land use and transportation framework to facilitate the proper planning and sustainable development of the Mahon area, including the Mahon Industrial Estate, Lough Mahon Technology Park, Avenue De Rennes, Mahon Point and Jacob’s Island.
The Mahon Local Area Plan is now published and is available for inspection together with the draft Mahon Local Area Plan and the associated Environmental Report for a period of 6 weeks from the 23 May 2014 AND the Habitats Directive Appropriate Assessment Screening Report.

Strategic Environmental Assessment
Article 14 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001-2014 incorporates the provisions of the SEA Directive (2001/42/EC) into Irish law for Local Area Plans. In accordance with the provisions of the regulations the City Council, as planning authority, has determined that Local Area Plan (the Draft Local Area Plan and Proposed material alterations) would not be likely to cause significant environmental effects on delivery of any of objectives of the Local Area Plan.
Habitat Directive Assessment
Part XAB of the Planning and Development Acts 2000-2013 incorporates the provisions of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) into planning legislation.
The City Council, as planning authority, has determined that the Local Area Plan and its Material Alterations would not have significant effects on the Natura 2000 network. Determination was by means of Habitat Directives Screening Report in accordance with s177U of the Act.
Strategic Flood Risk Assessment
The City Council has also determined that the Local Area Plan does not present a flood risk by means of flood risk assessments of the Draft Mahon Local Area Plan and the Proposed Alterations:

A key background document to the Mahon Local Area Plan is the Mahon Strategic Transport and Traffic Assessment, as transport issues are fundamental to the future of Mahon.
