In 2014 Cork City, Heritage Open Day took place on Saturday the 23rd of August 2014 and kicked started a weeklong event for Heritage Week including, talks, exhibitions, walks, workshops, which took place all over the city, throughout the week.
Heritage Week was a wonderful platform for families to come together to get involved in a wide range of activities. This year families, young and old, were encouraged to get out and connect with the heritage that is ingrained in all of us. For the older generation, the week was an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge of Ireland’s heritage with children and grandchildren, in particular reflecting on the changes that have taken place over the years. For families of all ages, it was a chance to take a break from the daily grind and explore the hidden treasures of our heritage, whether it is our built, cultural or natural heritage.
Heritage Week 2014 was a huge success with record attendances at all the organised events.
