Road Closures and Diversions

Please note that a section of the South Ring Road (N40), between Dunkettle Interchange and Junction 7 South Douglas Road Overbridge, including the Jack Lynch Tunnel & Tunnel Management Building /Little Island access road will be closed to normal traffic overnight for two successive nights as follows;

  • 20:00 hrs on Tuesday 29th July 2014 until 07:00 hrs on Wednesday 30th July 2014
  • 20:00 hrs on Wednesday 30th July 2014 until 07:00 hrs on Thursday 31st July 2014

These closures are necessary to facilitate urgent maintenance on the tunnel and its equipment and bridge repairs at the Main Douglas Road and South Douglas Road overbridges. Cork City Council regrets any inconvenience that may occur.

In between these overnight closures period i.e. during the day on Wednesday, the N40 including the Tunnel and its approach roads will be open to traffic as normal

Alternative traffic routes are available via the city centre during the periods of closure as follows:

On the North side of the river, southbound traffic should travel from the Dunkettle Interchange to the City Centre via the Tivoli dual carriageway and Lower Glanmire Road (N8), and then follow signs for the South Ring (N40) via the South City Link Road (N27).

Traffic to Ringaskiddy/Carrigaline will divert from the N40 at Junction 9 (near Bloomfield Estuary) to join the N28

On the Southern approaches to the Tunnel, northbound traffic should travel via the Kinsale Road Roundabout to the City Centre via the South City Link Road (N27), and then follow signs for Dublin (N8) and Waterford (N25) via Lower Glanmire Road.

Traffic from Ringaskiddy/Carrigaline will divert from the N28 and join the South Ring Road (N40) via R609, R610 and Douglas Link Road.

Saturday 26th July 2014

  • Sunday’s Well Road: Parking restrictions and stop/go in place from 07:00hrs to 00:00 hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. Works.

Sunday 27th July 2014

  • Lower Oliver Plunkett Street: Road closure in place from 09:30hrs to16:30hrs, between the junction of Custom House Street to the junction of Anderson’s Street to facilitate Water Dept (CCC), diversion in place.

Monday 28th July 2014

  • Parnell Bridge (southbound): Road Closure southbound in place from 19:30hrs to 06:00hrs to facilitate bridge rehabilitation works, diversion route in place.
  • Parnell Bridge (northbound): Lane restriction in place from 19.30hrs to 06:00hrs.
  • St. Patrick’s Quay: Parking restrictions in place from 07:00hrs to 00:00 hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. Works.
  • Popes Quay: Parking restrictions in place from 07:00hrs to 00:00 hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. Works.
  • Sunday’s Well Road: Parking restrictions and stop/go in place from 09:30hrs to 16.30hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. Works.
  • Lower Glanmire Road: Northern footpath closure in place from 09:30hrs to 16.30hrs between junctions of Ship Street and Kent Station.
  • Liam Lynch Park (near junction with Wilton Rd): Lane restriction in place from 19:30 hrs to 23.30 hrs to facilitate EIRCOM works.
  • Firgrove, Bishopstown: Lane restrictions in place over the next two weeks (28/7- 11/8) from 09:30 hrs to 17:30 hrs to facilitate EIRCOM works.

Tuesday 29th July 2014

  • Douglas East and Douglas West overbridges :( N40) westbound road closure in place from 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs.
  • Andersons Quay: Footpath restrictions in place from 07:00hrs to 00:00 hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. works.
  • Lapps Quay: Parking restrictions in place from 07:00hrs to 00:00 hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. Works.
  • Sunday’s Well Road: Parking restrictions and stop/go in place from 09:30hrs to 16.30hrs to facilitate Lower Lee S.I. Works.
  • Riverview Estate, Glasheen: Possible delays in place from 09:30hrs – 18:00hrs to facilitate a water connection.
  • Liam Lynch Park (near junction with Wilton Rd): Lane restriction in place from 19:30 hrs to 23.30 hrs to facilitate EIRCOM works.
  • Lower Glanmire Road: Northern footpath closure between junction with Ship Street and Kent Station in place from 09:30hrs to 16.30hrs.

ONGOING WORKS

  • South City Link: Bus lane closed inbound from Kinsale Road Roundabout to junction with Mick Barry Road to facilitate works on Tramore River Bridge (BBCLG on behalf of Bord Gais)
  • Blackpool Bridge: Lane restrictions 24hrs in operation to facilitate Cork City Bridge Rehabilitation Contract until August 2014
  • Gardiner’s Hill: Road closure in place to facilitate installation of watermain, road resurfacing and partial footpath renewal, local access will be maintained (McGinty & O’Shea on behalf of CCC) – please note that this work is due to continue until late August 2014
  • Ballyhooley Road: parking restrictions in place from 09:30hrs – 16:30hrs to facilitate footpath renewal works (McGinty & O’Shea on behalf of CCC) please note that this work is due to continue every Mon – Fri until August 2014
  • Barrack Street: will remain closed from Green Street to Reed Square until September 2014 to facilitate The Barrack Street Renewal Works Phase 2 (McGinty&O’Shea) - Please note that Reeds Square will be closed from Wednesday 4th June 2014
  • Merchants Quay: Bus lane closed (for approx 30m from the jct with Parnell Place)
