Welcome to the Recreation, Amenity & Culture Directorate

The activities assigned to the Recreation, Amenities and Culture Department encompass not only the traditional tasks associated with this area but also a number of other areas of activity.

The activities assigned are as follows:

• Recreation & Amenities
• Culture including Arts, Library, Museum, Archives etc.
• Fire, Civil Defence & Emergency Planning
• Building Control

The goals include the following:-

• To protect and enhance the natural environment of the city and improve the quality of life of all stakeholders by the provision of high quality recreational opportunities for all age groups.
• Develop the library service as a community resource for education, recreation, culture, heritage and life long learning.
• Work with the local community and other agencies to reduce risk to life and property and to efficiently and promptly respond to fires and other emergencies when they arise.
