Development Contributions

Cork City Council adopted a Development Contribution Scheme towards public infrastructure and facilities in the area on 27th April, 2009. All planning permissions granted after 27th April 2009 are subject to the conditions of this scheme and this includes permissions granted on appeal by An Bord Pleanála.

The rates contained in the scheme are subject to indexation and are updated on a quarterly basis in line with the Consumer Price Index as published by the Central Statistics Office.

The development contributions scheme relating to planning permissions granted before 28th April 2009 are subject to the General Development Contributions Scheme 2004 and Supplementary Development Contributions Scheme 2004.

  • General and Supplementary Development Contribution Scheme 2004

The Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) also allows Cork City Council to charge “Special Contributions” under section 48 (2)(c) of the Act. This is intended to allow the planning authority to require a specific contribution in addition to the General and Supplementary Development Contribution Schemes. The City Council requires Special Contributions where specific exceptional costs not covered by a scheme are incurred in respect of public infrastructure and facilities which benefit the proposed development. These Special Contributions charges are required by means of a specific condition on a planning permission.
