We provide a strategic planning framework for the future of Cork City

As the local planning authority we are responsible for preparing the development plan and local area plans. We also input into the preparation of higher level strategic plans, including Cork Area Strategic Plan (CASP), which is prepared jointly by Cork City and Cork County. 

We provide advice to those who are considering whether they need planning permission and those intending to make a planning application 

We process planning applications 

We ensure compliance with the Planning Regulations by means of our enforcement process. 

We provide advice to other City Council Directorates:

The Planning Department offers advice to other Directorates within the City Council on land-use and design issues. 

We provide expert specialist advice in relation to conservation, archaeology and heritage. 

We contribute to the implementation of projects developed through the planning process and related roles.
