Cork City Council is preparing a statutory Local Area Plan for the Mahon area in the south-east of the city, which is identified in the Cork City Development Plan 2009-2015 as a Key Development Area.

The new local area plan will set out a planning and development strategy for the area, the boundary of which is broadly defined by Skehard Road and Ringmahon Road to the north, Lough Mahon to the east, Douglas Estuary to the south, and Mahon Golf Club to the west.

The first stage of the project was the completion of a Pre-Plan Consultation process to identify issues that will need to be addressed in the preparation of the plan.  This stage was completed between March and June 2010.  The following reports summarise the output from the consultation process.

The boundary of the plan area has been enlarged to include the Avenue de Rennes area in response to comments made to the City Council through the public consultation workshop and written submissions.  The boundary of the plan area is now as follows.

The City Council is now in the process of developing a draft local area plan for the area.  It is hoped to publish the draft plan in early 2011.
