It is recognised that landscaping, plants and flowers can provide a visual lift and positive contribution to our neighbourhoods and communities.  As part of the Draft Blackpool Village Area Action Plan Cork City Council and RAPID are encouraging residents and commercial owners to create floral displays within Blackpool Village.  The area includes Watercourse Road, Thomas Davis Street, Commons Road, Dublin Street, Great William O’Brien Street, Gerald Griffin Street, Cathedral Walk. Applicants must first register their interest with the City Council.  The form is available by clicking the link below.  Applications will be determined on a first come, first served basis.  The Council will verify eligibility and successful applicants will then be invited to a launch event where the flower boxes will be planted up and distributed by the City Council for the applicants to take away.  The launch event will take place at Cork Foyer on Sat. 12th June 2010. Confirmation details will be issued in writing to successful applicants at a later date. 

Planted flower boxes for successful applicants will be provided by the City Council free of charge.  A maximum of two boxes per applicant will apply. 

Eligibility for the scheme:

1.      Building must be within the designated area. (The area may be extended at a later date subject to available funding).

2.      The building must have window sills capable of safely facilitating the window boxes and face onto the public street.

3.      Expressions of interest using the form must be received by the City Council by 4.30 pm on Friday 14th May. Send to: Planning Policy, Planning & Development Directorate, Cork City Council, City Hall, Cork.
