Conserving the Dream – Treasures of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral

On Thursday, 6 October 2005, Jimmy Page OBE, rock legend and Burges enthusiast formally opened Conserving the Dream – Treasures of St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral. The exhibition celebrated the work of William Burges, the London architect who designed St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, one of Cork’s landmark buildings. This exhibition contained the working designs, in both paper and plaster, which were the tools that enabled the dream of St. Fin Barre’s to become reality. The exhibits included full colour cartoons for the stained glass windows of the Cathedral in addition to plaster maquettes for the sculptures. All of these objects were created by artists especially selected by Burges and were executed to his design. The exhibition will run until 2007.
