Cork City Council recognises the importance of maintaining a vibrant, creative community and 2003 has seen the establishment of the post of Community Arts Co-ordinator. The post was created to assist the implementation of 'access and participation' objectives. The role of the Community Arts Co-ordinator is to co-ordinate the development of community arts in Cork City and in doing so make the creative process more accessible to the wider community. Often the biggest obstacle to accessing the arts is the lack of know-how in utilising existing funds and resources and support in realising projects. One of the roles for the Community Arts Co-ordinators is to aid the community in sourcing funds and develop links between the community and the Arts sector.
