The Cork Lions Club which is the official designated charity of A Cork Christmas Celebration on the 9th, 10th and 11th December and have a special stand on the Grand Parade where people can learn about the wonderful work of the Cork Lions Club. Formed in 1957, the Cork Lions Club has over fifty years of dedicated service to the community within the Cork area.
Organised by the Cork Lions Club, a massive Lions Appeal is taking place this weekend in various locations all over the city and county. The Lions Appeal will have a special stand on the Grand Parade where members of the public can drop off non-perishable items throughout the weekend.
The non perishable items will be used to make up Christmas Hampers which will be distributed all over Cork in the run up to Christmas to those most in need. The Lions Appeal will take place on the Grand Parade on Friday December 9, Saturday December 10 and Sunday December 11.
Throughout the weekend various free performances will take place in the special performance area on the Grand Parade. From 11am-6pm on Saturday a selection of Cork choirs and groups will sing Christmas songs for charity. These will include the Basement Resource Centre, Champagne Cork Barbershop Chorus and the Samaritans. Pantomime Characters from the Cork Opera House Pantomime Cinderella will be in full costume and are sure to entertain. Enjoy the festive atmosphere on the Grand Parade on Sunday from 12.30pm-6pm as bands such as the Blarney Brass and Reed Band, St Nicolas Brass and Reed Band and the Butter Exchange Brass and Reed Band perform a selection of much loved Christmas songs.
