Property

The Property Section deals with management of City Council property which involves:-

  • Processing / recording all purchase and sales of City Council property
  • Administration of lettings of City Council property including leasehold rents
  • Co-ordination of compulsory purchase orders from initial mapping through to arbitration
  • Administration of Derelict Sites Act procedures and wayleaves etc
  • Street Trading Legislation
  • City Council Markets

Many of the services operated by the Property Section are for other sections of the City Council but also some services are provided directly to the public.

Processing / Recording Purchases and Sales of City Council Property

The Property Section ensures that all purchases and sales of property by Cork City Council are mapped and recorded. A geographic information system is currently being prepared which will record all property owned by the City Council. The Department holds maps of all properties owned.

Commercial Properties for sale:

Any person wishing to offer a commercial property for sale to Cork City Council can do so by writing to the Property Section, Corporate Affairs Directorate, Cork City Council, City Hall, Cork, outlining details and enclosing a map showing clearly the property available.

Domestic Properties for sale:

Any person wishing to offer a domestic property for sale to Cork City Council can do so by writing to the Administrative Officer, Property Section, Corporate Affairs Directorate, City Hall, Cork, outlining details and enclosing a map showing clearly the property available.

Administration of Lettings

Many properties owned by Cork City Council are leased to private individuals and companies etc. The Property Section maps and keeps details of all transactions.

Any person liable to pay Ground Rent/Leasehold Rent may apply to purchase same by writing to the Property Section, enclosing a map of the property.

Co-Ordination of Compulsory Purchase Orders (C.P.O.s)

Where Cork City Council requires land to carry out its statutory functions and the land cannot be acquired by agreement, legislation provides that the land may be acquired by Compulsory Purchase Order.

The Property Section co-ordinates CPOs on behalf of all sections of Cork City Council from initial mapping through to arbitration.

Derelict Sites Act

The Derelict Sites Act 1990 required all Local Authorities to maintain a Register of all derelict properties in their area. The Property Section maintains the Register on behalf of the City Council and the Register contains details of derelict properties, location, ownership details, valuation. The register is available for inspection at the above address during normal opening times.

English Market

Cork City Council owns the English Market located at Grand Parade, Cork and stalls/units are leased by several traders. The Market is managed on behalf of Cork City Council by agents, currently Irish Estates Management Ltd., (Tel. No. 021 4278630).
