Launch of Suicide Prevention Strategy for Cork

Connecting for Life Cork, a city and county-wide suicide prevention strategy for Cork was launched today in the Millenium Hall, Cork City Hall by the Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, Deputy Jim Daly.

Speaking at the launch, the Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Tony Fitzgerald, commended the extensive consultation with the public, community and voluntary sectors, public bodies and with health care professionals in the drawing up of the strategy, and highlighted the commitment to community involvement in the strategy.

“No single stakeholder can deliver the achievement of the Strategy’s actions and goals, and bring about the targeted reductions in the levels of suicide and self-harm across Cork,” said the Lord Mayor. “It is very encouraging therefore to see so many groups, organization, public bodies, agencies and Elected Representatives coming along to City Hall for the Launch. The recognition of the preciousness of life, and indeed of personal wellbeing, is the first step in a journey that we must all make together.”
