On Monday the 25th of April 2016 the Lord Mayor, Cllr. Chris O’ Leary, launched Cork City Council’s Dog Fouling awareness week. The week long programme of events focuses on Education and Awareness. The theme for the week is SCOOP that POOP.
Following an Art competition held in January twenty two individual winners from 5th and 6th classes from primary schools within each of the six City Wards were presented with their prizes by the Lord Mayor.
Congratulations to Kealynn Dollard a 5th Class Student from St. Vincent’s Convent, Primary School who was selected as the overall winner(poster below) and received a €100 Smyths Toy Store voucher.
St. Vincent’s Convent, Primary School also received a bursary of €500 from Maxi Zoo, our co sponsors, to spend on the promotion of art within the school.
A new short advertisement, produced by Divine Media in association with
StormLight & St. John's College and sponsored by Cork City Council was also launched and will be shown in Cork cinemas as part of the campaign.
The school art will be on display for the public to view in Blackpool, Merchants Quay, Douglas and Wilton Shopping Centres on alternative days during this week.
The emphasis of the campaign is to educate our children to become responsible dog owners when they become adults and to create awareness with irresponsible dog owners of the difficulties they create when they fail to SCOOP that POOP.
