The National Irish Safety Organisation Awards took place in Galway on Friday 4th October 2013. It was Cork City Council’s first entry into the NISO Awards and we secured a major award on the night in the category of Regional Award, denoting that we had the highest standard entry out of all organisations and businesses within the Southern Region. The award was presented on the night by Lucinda Creighton, T.D. to Cork City Council’s Health and Safety Officer, Paula Kennedy.
Following on from the increased commitment to safety by management and staff, the Regional Award is a testament of the investment and resources that Cork City Council continually commit to the safety & health of staff. The Award recognises our safety management system combined with strong management leadership and the goal to achieve continuous improvement.Compiling a submission to the awards places our Health & Safety Management System under the scrutiny of an independent body and in turn Cork City Council gained an external review of the efforts we have invested into improving our Health & Safety culture and performance.
This improvement is a shared improvement between management and staff, both indoor and outdoor staff and Cork City Council would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the personal commitment being made by staff in our journey towards continually improving the standard of health and safety.
The All Ireland Safety Awards are jointly organized by the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) and the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) resulting in an average entry level of 1500 submissions by organisations in Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK, across sectors such as energy, construction, manufacturing & transport.
