Cork City Joint Policing Committee met on Monday 4 March in the Clarion Hotel in Cork. Guest speaker on the day was Mr. Robert K. Olson, Chief Inspector of the Garda Inspectorate, Dublin accompanied by Mr. Mark Toland, Deputy Chief Inspector.
The Inspectorate is an independent statutory body to ensure resources available to An Garda Síochána are used to achieve and maintain the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness in its operation and administration as measured by reference to the best standards of comparable police services”
During his career he has been internationally recognised as a public safety consultant. He has served on numerous advisory boards at all levels of government, including an advisory committee to the FBI Director and newly appointed Homeland Security Secretary after 9/11. He has also been an adjunct instructor at three universities and co-author of a book on community policing.
