The Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. John Buttimer today ( Friday 29th June 2012) congratulated City council staff, emergency services and the people of Cork for their response to the flooding emergency which resulted from the torrential rainfall which fell on the city in the early hours of Thursday June 28th.
The Lord Mayor stated:
“ It was heartening to see local communities coming together to help each other in the face of a crisis and disaster. I would like to thank and congratulate them for their response. I would also like to thank and compliment the staff of Cork City Council, the Flood Assessment Team, Housing Welfare Response Team, Clean Up Response Crews, community wardens, the Fire Service, The Gardaí, the Ambulance crews, Civil Defence and other groups and agencies that ensured there was a prompt and effective response to the flooding, minimising further damage and injury to people.
It is reassuring to know that in the event of a crisis we can always rely on the skills and commitment of the personnel of our essential services.”
