On Friday December 9th 2011 the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Terry Shannon signed an Agreement with Mr. Fan Chang An, Secretary General of the Shenzhen Tourism Association on the first leg of his three city visit to China.

“This agreement will open the way for a major tourism boost to Cork and the Southwest. There are huge opportunities in Asia and we must all work to ensure that these are taken up in partnership with business interests in Cork”.
The delegation included Ger O’Mahoney, Past President, Cork Chamber; Finbarr Corkery, Managing Director, Macau Sporting Club; and Mr. George Barter, Managing Director, J. Barter Travel Group. Ms. Lin Yuping from the IDA Ireland office in Shenzhen joined the delegation also.
He also met Chen Biao, Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs in the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government to discuss further co-operation with this thriving Metropolitan area just north of Hong Kong. Mr. Chen said that Cork was famous for its attractive location, its pharmaceutical and ICT industries and quality of life. He looked forward to leading a business delegation to Cork in 2012.
The Lord Mayor visited Huawei Technologies Global Headquarters, where he was received by Guo Tianmin (Vice President). Huawei has a Research unit in Cork; Mindray Bio-medical Electronics (which supplies equipment to the CUH) and PCH (which has its Headquarters in Cork) where he met CEO, Liam Casey.
