On Wednesday 5th October 2011 the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Terry Shannon hosted a farewell reception for a delegation of Cork City Council Officials and School Principals at his offices in City Hall, Cork. The delegation left for China on Saturday 8th October for a eight-day visit. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen the collaboration between schools in Shanghai and Cork, as set out in the Sister City Agreement. The trip is funded by UCC Confucius Institute.
The delegation will visit the Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing and travel to Shanghai to visit the National Training Center for High School Principals in East China Normal University. The principals will visit their sister schools in Shanghai.
In addition, the Lord Mayor also presented certificates to four City Council officials who have successfully passed the internationally recognized Chinese Proficiency Exams (HSK).
The Lord Mayor also welcomed Ms. Ms Zhu Mei from Shanghai Jianqing Experimental School in Changning District, Shanghai. Shanghai Jianqing Experimental School is the sister school of Scoil Mhuire and Ms. Zhu is spending three months in Cork teaching Chinese at Scoil Mhuire. Regina Moran, Principal, Scoil Mhuire also attended.
