Séan Óg Ó hAilpín to be awarded Freedom of the City

At a  meeting of Cork City Council on Tuesday April 26th 2011 the Lord Mayor of Cork, Councillor Michael O’ Connell nominated Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, accomplished Cork footballer and hurler, for the Freedom of the City of Cork and the nomination was unanimously supported by all members of Council.

Speaking on the nomination the Lord Mayor stated:

“I feel Seán Óg’s nomination and its approval by Council is a fitting tribute to a player who has shown his mastery and skill in both hurling and football for his school An Mhainistir Thuaidh, his club Na Piarsaigh, his county, province and country. He has been a wonderful ambassador for sport and for the Irish language and continues to be a role model for the youth of the city.”
