On Wednesday March 30th at a function in the Ambassador Hotel , Cork  the Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Michael O’Connell  announced the winners of the  “Win your Wedding ” competition for one lucky couple to  be the first to have their civil wedding ceremony in the Lord Mayor’s Office in City Hall and enjoy  many of the associated costs of their wedding  free of charge from a host of sponsors:

The winners are Ann Marie Collins & Eric Meehan from the city. They were one of three couples shortlisted for the prize.

Speaking at the event the Lord Mayor paid tribute to the generosity of the sponsors and to the people of Cork and further afield who responded in such numbers to the competition:

“We were overwhelmed by the response to the competition and  how those applying viewed the opportunity. I would like to take this  opportunity to thank all those who entered. I congratulate Ann Marie and Eric and very much look forward to the wedding taking place in City Hall. It will create history and on behalf of the office of Lord Mayor and the people of Cork I would like to wish them well” .

The judging panel who had the unenviable task of short listing and choosing the winners was chaired by the Lady Mayoress Catherine O’ Connell and comprised of Caroline Counihan (Brown Thomas) Claire Nash (Nash 19), Claire Killeen,(Ambassador Hotel) and Deirdre O’ Reilly (Evening Echo).

Speaking on behalf of the panel the Lady Mayoress, Catherine O Connell stated:

“Of course if we could we would have given the prize to all couples but in the end there could only be one winner. Ann Marie and Eric were the unanimous choice of the panel and we all share in the joy and excitement of their upcoming ceremony.
