The Programme to Commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Deaths of Former Lord Mayors MacCurtain and MacSwiney and of the Burning of Cork, features an Exhibition, talks by a number of historians and the screening of film projects by Scoil Oilibhéir on both men.

Speaking at the event the Lord Mayor,  Cllr. Michael O' Connell stated:

“As a successor to Mac Curtain and Mac Swiney and in wearing the Lord Mayor’s Chain of Office, I am both humbled and honoured to read the historic minutes of Corporation meetings from the time, to symbolically launch the week of Civic Commemoration. One cannot but be affected by the hand of history such an event has on someone holding, as I do the title and privilege of the title of Lord Mayor”
